5 Days Tour From Fes To Marrakech Via Merzouga Desert

DAY 1 : Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erg Chebbi Dunes

Your journey begins in Fez starting in the early morning. You will travel south-going through :

 Ifrane city is known for its special,  clean and green environment ( some call it Switzerland of Morocco). In winter it is the direction of many Moroccan people to enjoy the snow.

Azrou where Cedar Forests is. In Cèdre Gouraud Forest which is located between Azrou and Ifrane. In this place, you will be able to see trees climbed by the Berber apes

 In the journey, you will stop for a nicely prepared meal near Midelt (the capital of apples).

Ziz Gorges where you will enjoy the wonderful Valleys. You may love to take some photos of this valley, which famous of the palm groves, and the variety of crops.

Erfoud which an oasis town in Sahara Desert. It is known by fossils and the production of dates

After arriving at Erg Chebbi Dunes ( called also Merzouga dunes) where you will spend the night at the hotel (Dinner and breakfast are guaranteed)

DAY 2: Merzouga – Hassi labeled – Khamlia – Nomad family – fossil Site – Tour of the dunes

At the hotel, you will have breakfast. In 4×4, you will continue the tour towards the dunes. You will enjoy visiting the nice nomad families and exploring fossils. Khamia is one of the interesting villages you will visit. While you are there you will the Gnawa music and its dancing. Gnawa music has a rich repertory of ancient African Islamics spiritual religious songs.

Dayte Sarij will be the next direction. It is a huge lake where local people picnic in the springtime. You may have the chance camels swim while you are there.

In Merzouga, you will have lunch. Later on, you will visit the canal irrigation system, and take a nice walk in the oasis located over the dunes.

After catching your breath at the hotel for a short while, you will ride camels enjoying the beautiful sunset.

You will spend the night camp  in a nomad tent) in the middle of the dunes.

Under a sky with endless stars, you will have dinner

DAY 3: Erg Chebbi Dune-Erfoud-Tinejdad-Todra Gorges-Boumalne Du Dades

In the early morning, you’ll enjoy the wonderful sunrise and a nice breakfast over the dunes. You will take an invigorating shower when you are back at the hotel

Traveling through Erfoud (It is called also the gate of Sahara Desert) and Tinejdad, which is a city in Errachidia Province, you will arrive at Tineghir (where you will have lunch). Tineghir is located in in the north of the Little Atlas, and the south of the High Atlas.

The trip will be continued to Todra Gorges in the afternoon. Todgha Gorges are a series of limestone river canyons. There, you can take some beautiful pictures, enjoy hiking while passing by nomad people coming down to get water from the gorges.

The next step will be driving towards Boumalne du Dades traveling through the Dades Gorges (series of rugged wadi gorges carved out by the Dades River) where you will check-in at the hotel for dinner and accommodation.

DAY 4: Boumalne Du Dades-Boutghrar-Valley of Roses-Kelaa M’gouna-Ouarzazate

You will have breakfast at the hotel before you visit the Dades Gorges (beautiful rock formations), we will be heading to Ouarzazate which will be the destination. Next, we will take a break while we are visiting one of the nomad families. You will be able to have a cup of tea with them observing the caves they live in.

 In our journey, we will travel through Klaat M’gouna (where you will have lunch) which is called also “the Valley of Roses”. Klaat M’gouna is known by the beauty of its roses for there is a factory specialized in producing rose water. The city is also famous for the special dance Ahidous.

In the afternoon, we will travel through Skoura ( a town in Ouarzazate province). Skoura is a beautiful oasis with vast palm groves. Part of Skoura palm grove is The Kasbah Amerhidil which was built in the 17th century.

In Ouarzazate, you will have dinner at the hotel.

DAY 5: Ouarzazate-Ait Benhaddou-Telouet-Tizi N’tichka Pass- High Atlas Mountains-Marrakech

On this day, you will have breakfast at the hotel and leave to visit the Kasbah of Touirit. Taourirt Kasbah is one of the impressive Kasbahs in Ouarzazate. To feel lost is easy in this Kasbah ( about almost 300 rooms the Kasbah contains, steps, amazing passageways, and keylock door). Next, we will see the Atlas Film Studios (World’s largest film studio). Ouarzazate has been as a shooting place for many movies such as Alexander the Great, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, Babel, The Mummy (1999), Star Wars (1977), The Living Daylights (1987), Martin Scorsese’s Kundun (1997), and many others.

In a local restaurant in the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, we will stop for lunch. To the Marrakech city, we will drive you by the afternoon. In this day’s journey, visiting the Kasbah of Telouet will be included. It is also called the Palace of El Glaoui. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was built. Yet, (before you reach Marrakech) you will travel through Tizi N’tichka. It is a famous pass mountain in Morocco ( Its elevation: 2,260 m)

Once you are in Marrakech, you will be driven towards your accommodation.
