8 days tour to Merzouga Desert from Marrakech

DAY 1 : Marrakech - Ait Ben Hadou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne Dades

Before you start your 1st day of 8 day private desert trip, you will have breakfast in Marrakech. In your jouney you will travel through the High Atlas Mountains andTizi-nTichka pass with an elevation of 2260m. Enjoy the fascinating natural views with various billiant colors and small Berber villages whre you will be able to stop to enjoy and capture some amazing pictures. The tour will be resumed towards Ouarzazate which is called also the Gate or entrance of Sahara desert. Continuing to explore more in Ouarzazate, we will visit t the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou where you will visit Cinema Studios. Many movies were shot in this Kasbah such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Alexander

Our journey includes also heading to  visit Dades Gorges via the astonishing road of one thousand Kasbahs. When you reach Boumalne Dades, you’ll have dinner and stay the night enjoying the accomodation at a hostel/Riad.

DAY 2: Dades Valley - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga Sahara Desert

Leaving Dades Gorges behind after having breakfast, we will head toward Toudra Gorges, series of limestone river canyons, where most vistors enjoy hiking and passing by the nomad who come down to the gorge to get water. Todgha gorges are considered the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco.

You will have enough time to have lunch on your way before we arrive in our destination Merzouga.Here, you’ll admire the beautiful sunset from the top of highest sand dunes after reaching the heart of Shara riding camels for about an hour and half. While you are camping there, you will enjoy a nice supper listening to the rhythm of Berber drums music and watching dancing.

In a Luxury Desert Camp under the breath-taking stars, you will spend the rest of the night.

DAY 3: Merzouga Sahara Desert Adventure Trip

After waking up in the early morning,  you will witness the amazing sunrise in the magical sand of the Sahara desert. You will return to your Riad or Hotel in Merzouga riding the camel after having breakfast.  In Merzouga, the driver/guide will be ready to accompany you to explore more the region of that town. On your 2nd day of the trip will include visiting Khamlia village. You will be very welcomed to have a cup of tea while enjoying the area’s style of msic which is called Gnawa music.Gnawa music is a well known style of music with a plentiful reportory of ancient African Islamic spiritual religious songs and rhythms. You will have the chance to observe their special music and lifestyle.You wouldn’t also miss enjoying the fascinating sand dunes and observe a nomad’s lifestyle of living in their tents. Visiting some deserted mines and oasis of palm trees is a very interesting part of the day’s program.

Finally, you will be back to Merzouga. This is where you’ll experience the magic of the Merzouga streets.

DAY 4: Merzouga Dunes - Rissani - Erfoud - Ziz Valley - Errachidia - Midelt

Will head to Midelt traveling through Rissani and Erfoud after the unforgettable experience in Sahara Dsert. When you arrive in Risssani, you will be able to explore the authentic Souks which the town of Rissani is known by. Rissani has the largest Souks (traditional markets) in Morocco.

As we procced  traveling toward Midelt, we take a break on our way to appreciate the billiant views of palm trees over the Ziz valley. Once we pass Errachidia our trip will guide us along the Rich Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock.

to arrive Midelt, you’ll have to travel through the Tizi N Talghamt pass. You will enjoy resting the night at the hotel serving a delicious dinner.

DAY 5: Midlet - Atlas Mountains - Azrou (Cedar Forest) - Fes Imperial City

On your six day of the trip after having breakfast, you will be leaving Midlet toward Fes traveling through the small anicent mud Berber villages in the Middle Atlas Mountains. In your journey, you ill have a stop at Cedar. It is woodland area in the Middle Atlas Mountain located  between Azrou and Ifrane. In this place, you will be able to see trees climbed by the berber apes.

Resuming our trip and before and before aariving in Fez , you will travel through Ifrane which is also nicknamed “Switzerland of Morocco”.

At your Hotel / Riad you will spend the rest of  the evening in Fez!

DAY 6: Full day Fes Imperial City Sightseeing Tour

Today’s plan will be visiting some interesting monuments in Fez which one of the imprtant imperial cities in Morocco. Fez is considered as a religious and cultural center of Morocco. While you are exploring this ancient city, you will enjoy a guided tour walikng through the medina. More sites you can discover in your free afternoon. Fez Media is one of the medieval UNESCO Heritage Sites. Fez El Bali ( the Old Cit) has very interesting monuments that deserve to be visited such as Al Quaraouin University which is the first established university in the world according to Guiness record, UNESCO and many other scholars. You will also want to visit Nejjarin Museum, Jewish Quarter, tennaries, and more.

End the night in an authentic hotel or Riad.

DAY 7: Fez - Volubilis - Meknes - Rabat

To another imperial city (Meknes) we will be traveling after having breakfast at the hotel in Fez.  On the day number seven of the tour, you will have the chance, before you reach Meknes, to visit Volubilis. It is is an interesting and ancient site tha had been once the capital of the kingdom of Mauretania before it became southernmost cities of the Roman Empire. Volubilis is the prominent ruins of the Roman in  Morocco.

Discovering Meknes will be interesting by visiting Bab El Mansour. This giant and iconic Bab (door) was built in 1732 . It is known for its marble columns and geometric ornamentation. You will also enjoy visiting Lahdim square, which is a small version of Jamaa El Fnaa square in Marrakech, the Mouselom of Moulay Ismail.

The capital of Morocco (Rabat) is the city we will be traveling to next. It overlooks the beautiful sea. In Rabat, you will enjoy exploring:

  • Oauday Kasbah which was built it in the 12th century and used to sereve as a military. Besides that its has charming scenic views of the Bou Regreg river, the Plage of Rabat, , and the Atlantic Oceanthe famous Hassan 2 tower and the Mohamed 5 mausoleum.
  • Hassan Tower is a 12th century still-standing monument. The intention was to build the largest minaret along with the mosque in the world but, unfortunately, it was left as an incomplete Masjid (mosque) when Yaqub Al Mansour died in 1199. He was the founder of Hassan tower.
  • Mohammed VI Museum : a contemporary and modern art museum and one the important museums created by the National Foundation of Museums of Morocco.
  • Mausoleum of Mohammed V. It is composed of the Moroccan king’s ,Mohammed V,  tombs and his two sons ( The previous king Hassan II and Prince Abdallah).

You will spend the night at a hotel/Riad in the Medina.

DAY 8: Rabat - Casablanca - Back to Marrakech Imperial City

After having breakfast, our journey will continue. The destination will  be Casablana on your eighth and last day of the tour. In Casablanca, you will visit  Hassan II Mosque.. It is considered the largest mosque in Africa and the third in the world. It can contain  25.000 worshippers covering 24,000 square.

The next step will be traveling to Marrakech city. For the rest of the day, you will be free. You may want to visit Jamaa El Fnaa. It is  a large square place in Marrakesh’s medina. It is also a market where you can find many interesting products and a variety of delecious local meals. Local people and tourists share this place for entertainment. They can, for example, enjoy watching Gnoua dancers, listen to the story tellers, pass by water sellers.
